The Dorothy Effect: You’ve Had the Power All Along

Do you remember that moment at the end of The Wizard of Oz when Dorothy finds out she could have gone home the whole time? It’s one of those scenes that sticks with you—not just because it’s iconic, but because it holds a truth so many of us forget:

We spend so much of our lives searching outside of ourselves for what we already have within.
We look for love but forget to love ourselves first. We chase confidence but avoid the things that would build it.We long for peace but hold onto the chaos we’ve grown comfortable with.
Sound familiar? The thing is, Dorothy didn’t need the wizard. She didn’t need someone else to grant her what she was missing. She already had everything she needed inside her—she just had to believe it.
The Lesson: Getting Out of Our Own Way
Life has a way of making us feel like we have to keep searching for something “out there” to complete us. A new job. A relationship. A new city. A fresh start. But the truth is, home—peace, happiness, confidence, love—isn’t something we find elsewhere. It’s something we remember and return to.
That means:✔️ You already have the courage you’re looking for—it’s just waiting for you to take action.✔️ You already have the wisdom you seek—you just need to trust it.✔️ You already have the love you long for—you just need to start giving it to yourself.
The only thing standing between you and the life you want is the belief that it’s somewhere else.
Your Turn: A Simple Reflection Exercise
If this resonates with you, take a moment to reflect on these questions:
1️⃣ What part of your life feels like you’re waiting for something outside yourself to change?2️⃣ What fear is standing between you and the version of you that you know you’re meant to be?3️⃣ What is one small step you can take today to reclaim your power?
The journey home isn’t about changing who you are—it’s about realizing that you already are everything you need to be.
